Janet Grant ’74 Includes Carroll in Estate Plan to Help Others Enjoy the Benefits of a Small College

Janet Grant ’74

When I dearly wanted to attend Carroll in 1970, my farmer dad wasn’t sure we could afford it. Ultimately, I was able to convince him that with the scholarships and loans I’d receive, it would cost no more than if I went to a state college. The affirmation of Carroll’s financial aid package gave me the confidence to be involved in many activities of campus life and to get good grades. I continue to have happy memories of faculty and staff I got to know inside and outside the classroom. As an early student in the Communications Department, Dr. Hemmer served as my advisor; Dr. Williams and I co-chaired the January Term program; Dr. Buzza encouraged me in the challenges of being a resident assistant; Mr. Van Ess showed me what a good supervisor could be when I worked the library front desk—and so many memories.

For the past 50 years I have continued to work in nonprofits and in education, having just retired as a hospital chaplain. With my family tradition of thriftiness and excellent opportunities over the years, it is a privilege for me to be able to include Carroll in my estate plan. Maybe another farm kid will be able to attend, enjoy the benefits of the small college, and have as good a life as I have enjoyed.
