My story begins like many Carroll stories—Shirley Hilger visited my Oshkosh high school. I went to hear her to skip a class, not dreaming my life’s path would be affected. I chose Carroll for excellence in liberal arts and other unique opportunities. One that was rare in 1968 was Carroll’s study abroad program. I spent my junior year in Nairobi, Kenya—establishing a lifelong interest in travel to deepen cross-cultural understanding.
After studying English and religion at Carroll, I went to seminary then served local churches and nonprofit organizations in ministry until I retired in 2018. I'm grateful for my Carroll foundation, made possible by scholarships given by others before me. It means a lot now to give back. Giving through an IRA has been wonderful. It’s very easy to do, and it allows me to give more generously than I could otherwise.
